Photo Description

This photograph features the area of what was once known as Meigs Field.

Meigs Field was a single strip airport built on Northerly Island and opened on December 10, 1948. For a time it was the country's busiest single-strip airport.

In 1994, Mayor Daley announced plans to close the airport and build a park in its place on Northerly Island.
