Photo Description

This is a great black and white photograph of the historic landmark building, the Water Tower.

The water tower was the only public building in the burned zone to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Many of the people who built up Chicago after the Great Fire came from outside of Chicago and built up a new city within a very short time.  And we are still waking up to the fact that today's Chicago does not belong to just one ethnic group or race.
