Vintage Soldier Field - Black & White Historical Chicago Bears

from 45.00
This vintage photograph captures an amazing view of Soldier Field and the old city skyline a few weeks after construction was complete. The U-shaped structure was designed to complement the neoclassical style of the nearby Field Museum of Natural History, but the correlation was lost when the Park District Building was added on the north end. The design recalls ancient Greek and Roman arenas, with Doric columns rising 100 feet above the arena. Constructed of concrete and faced with granite-textured cast stone.

In its earliest configuration Soldier Field was capable of seating nearly 74,000 spectators, and was in the shape of a U.  Additional seating could be added along the interior field, upper promenades and on the large, open field and terrace beyond the north end zone, bringing the seating capacity to over 100,000.
